  • What is the process of placing my order, and how long until installation?
Once you've selected your material and accepted a quote (either through our website, by phone, or via email), simply place your order and pay the deposit to get started. We'll then schedule a templating appointment, where our team will take precise measurements for your worktop. From receiving your deposit, the average timescale until installation is around 3 weeks. However, if the chosen material needs to be sourced internationally, lead time can extend to 6 weeks. Please note: We’ll confirm all dates along the way to ensure a seamless experience from order to installation.
  • What are the different types of materials available, and what are their main differences?
At Patina, we offer three premium Cosentino materials, each with unique qualities to suit various needs and styles: Mineral, Porcelain, and Natural Stone. Mineral (Silestone Quartz) – Silestone combines 94% natural quartz with advanced resins, creating an exceptionally durable, non-porous surface. It’s highly resistant to stains and scratches, making it ideal for busy kitchens. While heat-resistant, it’s best to use trivets for hot pans. Porcelain (Dekton Ultra-Compact Surface) – Dekton is engineered using a blend of quartz, porcelain, and glass, resulting in a highly durable, ultra-compact surface that’s scratch, stain, and heat-proof. Its versatility allows it to be used not just as a worktop, but also for exterior cladding, flooring, and wall applications. Natural Stone (Sensa Granite) – Sensa granite is a natural stone treated for stain resistance, offering a classic look with natural variations unique to each slab. It’s extremely durable, heat-proof, and suitable for kitchens, though each slab's natural pattern may vary. Each of these materials is a high-quality, carefully selected option that balances durability with aesthetics.
  • What are the different finishes available?
At Patina, we offer two primary finishes for our Cosentino materials - Polished and Matte - each bringing unique qualities to your surfaces. Polished Finish – A polished finish provides a high-gloss look that enhances the depth and vibrancy of the material. It acts as an additional barrier, especially useful for quartz, making it more resistant to staining and easier to clean. This finish is perfect for those looking for a refined, reflective surface. Matte Finish – The matte or “suede” finish is a softer, non-reflective option that adds a modern, understated elegance to the surface. While beautiful, matte surfaces can be slightly more prone to showing smudges and fingerprints, especially with quartz. Dekton’s ultra-compact surfaces, however, maintain high resistance to staining even in a matte finish. Our natural stone options, such as granite, are primarily available in polished finishes but can also be found in honed finishes, which offer a softer texture but may be more susceptible to staining. Choose the finish that best reflects your style and meets your practical needs for a unique, beautiful result.
  • What is the standard depth of the worktops?
Our standard worktop depth at Patina is 650mm, providing ample space for sinks, taps, and upstands, while also allowing room at the back for any necessary piping or electrical work. This depth is carefully chosen to ensure both functionality and aesthetics, fitting seamlessly into most kitchen designs. Of course, if you have specific requirements, please discuss them with us, and we’ll be happy to accommodate.
  • What thicknesses are available?
Cosentino worktops are available in three standard thicknesses: 12mm, 20mm, and 30mm, each offering its own aesthetic and functional advantages. Silestone and Sensa worktops are available in 20mm or 30mm thicknesses, with the 30mm thickness ideal for more traditional, shaker-style kitchens. Dekton, on the other hand, comes in 12mm or 20mm options, with 12mm being especially suited for sleek, modern spaces. The 20mm thickness offers the most versatility, effortlessly fitting into both classic and contemporary designs. If you’re unsure which thickness is best for your project, we’re here to help you make the perfect choice.
  • Can scratches and chips be repaired?
Yes, we can buff out scratches and fill chips to the best of our abilities. In most cases, repairs will leave the flaw nearly undetectable; however, this does depend on the material and the extent of the damage. Our call-out rate for these repairs is £250 + VAT. If you need assistance with a repair, please reach out and we’ll be happy to help.
  • Which type of worktop is right for me?
Each of our surfaces has its own strengths and identity, designed to suit different priorities, tastes, and lifestyles. Here’s a quick guide to help you decide which is right for you: Silestone (Mineral Surface) – If you seek a refined, low-maintenance surface with the aesthetic appeal of natural stone, Silestone is an exceptional choice. Known for its durability and scratch resistance, Silestone is easy to clean and doesn’t require sealing, making it perfect for busy kitchens. It comes in an array of styles and colours, offering elegance and performance for those who appreciate beauty with minimal upkeep. Dekton (Ultra-Compact Surface) – For a virtually indestructible surface, Dekton offers unparalleled resilience. Highly resistant to scratches, heat, and UV rays, Dekton is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, with a non-porous finish that makes it exceptionally stain-resistant. Ideal for those who need a worktop that can endure heavy use without showing wear and who favour a sleek, modern aesthetic. Sensa (Natural Granite) – For those drawn to the organic beauty of natural stone, Sensa granite provides a unique and elegant option. Each slab is distinct, with natural veining that adds character. Sensa’s advanced treatment offers added stain resistance, requiring less maintenance than typical granite while retaining its natural charm. Best suited for those who cherish the individuality of natural stone and are willing to invest a bit more care in its upkeep.
  • What percentage of quartz is in your worktops?
Silestone mineral surfaces, offered by Patina, are made with up to 90% natural quartz. This high quartz content gives Silestone its strength, durability, and distinctive beauty. If you’re specifically interested in the silica content in Silestone surfaces, Cosentino’s new Silestone® HybriQ+® technology is designed to reduce crystalline silica levels significantly. Silestone® HybriQ+® surfaces feature advanced technology that reduces crystalline silica content to between 10% and 40%, depending on the specific design. For the SilestoneXM range, the crystalline silica content is capped even lower, at a maximum of 10%, ensuring a safe and sustainable surface choice. In addition to its reduced silica content, Silestone® HybriQ+® surfaces incorporate 99% reused water, 100% renewable energy, and at least 20% recycled materials, making them an eco-friendly option that balances innovation with high performance and aesthetic appeal.
  • Are Quartz Worktops Dangerous?
Quartz worktops are popular for their durability, aesthetic appeal, and low maintenance requirements, making them a favourite choice in kitchens and bathrooms. However, there’s some concern about the silica content in quartz surfaces and its potential risks. Here's what you need to know about silica, its impact, and why quartz worktops are completely safe in the home. What is Silica and Why Can it Be Dangerous? Silica, or silicon dioxide, is a naturally occurring mineral found in sand, rock, and quartz. In its crystalline form, silica becomes a health concern when it is cut, ground, or polished, creating fine dust particles. Prolonged exposure to high levels of airborne crystalline silica dust can lead to respiratory issues for workers, including conditions like silicosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This risk is significant for professionals who fabricate and cut quartz and other stone surfaces, as they are regularly exposed to silica dust. Why Quartz Worktops Are Safe in Your Home While silica dust can be dangerous during fabrication, quartz worktops are entirely safe in their finished, solid form. When installed in a home, quartz worktops are inert and do not emit silica dust, posing no health risk to homeowners. Quartz worktops by Cosentino, specifically their Silestone® HybriQ+® surfaces, are designed with safety in mind. This innovative range contains a reduced crystalline silica content—10% in the SilestoneXM line and up to 40% in other HybriQ+® surfaces. Our Commitment to Safety Standards At Patina, we strictly follow all health and safety guidelines during the fabrication process, ensuring that our team is protected when handling quartz. Cosentino, the manufacturer of Silestone®, also upholds stringent safety practices and environmental standards in their production process, prioritising worker safety and sustainability. In the end, quartz worktops provide a beautiful and durable surface for your home, free from any health risks associated with silica dust exposure. For homeowners, quartz worktops are a safe and lasting investment, delivering style and resilience without compromising on safety.
  • What does “templating” mean?
In the context of worktops, templating is the process of creating an exact, custom template or model of the surface area where your worktop will be installed. Once you've chosen your worktop material and design, a professional will visit your home to take precise measurements and assess any specific requirements, such as cutouts for sinks, hobs, or unique edge details. This ensures the worktop will fit perfectly within your space, accounting for any irregularities or unique aspects of the layout. Templating usually takes around 2 hours, depending on the complexity of the project, and is an essential step for a flawless installation.
  • What is Fabrication?
Fabrication is the stage that follows templating. Using the template, skilled craftsmen cut, shape, and finish the chosen stone material to match the specifications of your space. During this process, precise cuts are made for any required fittings, such as sinks, taps, and hobs, and any additional finishing, such as polishing or edging, is completed. Fabrication is what brings the final worktop to life, ready for installation in your home.
  • How Do I Know When My Kitchen Is Ready for a Template Appointment?
Your kitchen is ready for templating once the cabinets are fully fitted and any necessary hardware - such as sinks, taps, and cookers - has been delivered. Ideally, your kitchen fitter will advise you when everything is in place for us to come and template. It’s important that everything is ready as planned to avoid additional costs if the appointment needs to be rescheduled.
  • When and How Will I Be Notified About My Template/Installation Appointment?
Once we’ve scheduled your template or installation appointment, we’ll confirm the exact date with you by phone and follow up with an email. The day before your appointment, we’ll reach out again - either by phone or email - to confirm the timeslot when our team will be arriving. Please remember that you’ll need to be present for both the template and installation appointments. During the templating, you’ll sign off on your choices, and after installation, you’ll be asked to review and approve the final work.
  • Can I Rearrange My Template/Installation Appointment?
If you need to change your appointment date, just reach out to our team, and we’ll help arrange a new one that suits you. We kindly ask for at least 2 working days’ notice to make these changes. If it’s any closer to the appointment, please note that there may be a small cancellation fee.
  • How Do I Pay for My Order?
When ordering directly with us, we require a 40% deposit to confirm your order, with the remaining 60% due upon completion. Simply review, sign, and send back your quote document via email or post, and a member of our team will reach out to process your deposit. For orders placed through our website, full payment is required at checkout.
  • How Do I Clean My Worktops?
Patina provides a care kit with each installation, including a microfibre cloth, instructions on maintaining your surfaces, and contact details for your personal customer care manager. For more detailed information on cleaning specific materials like Silestone, Dekton, or Sensa, you can refer to Cosentino’s care guidelines on their website. Basic Cleaning for All Cosentino Surfaces[Text Wrapping Break]Use a neutral soap on the area you’re cleaning and gently rub in a circular motion with a damp microfibre cloth. Let it sit for a couple of minutes, then wipe off any residue with a cloth. Finally, dry the area with kitchen roll for a spotless finish. For any questions or extra care tips, feel free to contact your customer care manager.
  • How are you able to quote so easily? You haven’t even asked me for a measurement!
At Patina, we’ve designed our quoting process to be as seamless as possible. Thanks to our smart quoting system and deep understanding of industry-standard configurations, we can provide reliable quotes without needing measurements up front. Most worktops follow common layouts and surface requirements, allowing us to offer an estimate based on these known specifications. After this initial quote, we’ll conduct a precise measurement during the templating stage to ensure a perfect fit. While our estimates are accurate in most cases, there can occasionally be unforeseen factors that require adjustments to the original quote. If this happens, rest assured we’ll notify you right away, explaining any changes in detail. And, if for any reason you decide not to proceed, we’ll fully refund any payments made. This process helps us balance speed with accuracy, ensuring that you receive the most dependable quote without any hidden surprises.
  • What is the “from price” vs “my price?”
The “my price” is your personalised quote. Once you define your specific preferences and any unique requirements through our “Define Your Space” tool, you’ll see your custom “my price” calculated to reflect your individual choices. This price takes into account your selected materials, finishes, and any additional features or adjustments you may have chosen, giving you a tailored estimate based on your needs.
  • What is your relationship with Cosentino, and why do you offer their products?
Our approach is very intentional - we don’t overwhelm you with endless choices. Instead, we act as tastemakers, curating a refined selection of materials so that you can trust in the quality and elegance of each one. Patina has no official partnership with Cosentino; we’ve simply chosen their materials because we believe they’re the best in the industry and align perfectly with our values of craftsmanship and quality. Their products bring a level of reliability and innovation we’re proud to offer to our customers, setting a standard we’re confident in. In fact, we’re so committed to this principle that we don’t even carry all of Cosentino’s offerings. We carefully handpick only those surfaces that meet our high standards, ensuring that every product in our selection embodies the excellence we believe in and can genuinely recommend.
